Dr. Monro originally trained as a General Practitioner and is now a Consultant Physician in Old Age Medicine with a special interest in Falls, Osteoporosis, and Orthogeriatrics. He is also one of the Acute Physicians who works on the Acute Assessment Unit at GRH, supervising the emergency medical hospital admissions 1 week in 3.

Dr. Monro looks after one half of Ward 6B, an acute elderly medicine ward (patients aged over 75), and medical outliers admitted to the Orthopaedic wards (Wards 2A and 3A).

Dr. Monro does an Orthogeriatric ward round twice a week to provide Falls, Osteoporosis and medical advice for elderly patients admitted to the trauma wards with femoral neck fracture and other fragility fractures.

He has a weekly Falls clinic General Old Age Medicine clinic (when not on AAU duty) and an AAU follow-up clinic on a rota with the other AAU Physicians.

He is responsible for the Old Age Medicine Departmental education programme and Medical Students attached to the Department at GRH.

Multidisciplinary Falls Clinic – Wednesday afternoons. This clinic is for Elderly patients who are having recurrent falls due to underlying medical conditions.

There is also a Falls Prevention Clinic run by the Hospital Falls Officer on Thursday mornings. This clinic is for elderly people whose falls are predominately due to arthritis, gait or balance disorders.

General Old Age Medicine clinic – Thursday mornings. This is for new patients referred by their GP or other hospital departments, ward discharges, and other medical follow-ups.

AAU clinic – Wednesday mornings, on rota with other AAU Consultants. This is to follow-up medical patients discharged from the AAU.
