Dr Smith has an all round knowledge and experience in the management of rheumatic diseases. She has particular experience of managing connective tissue diseases such as lupus having worked in the Lupus Unit, St Thomas's Hospital, London. She has also worked as a general physician overseas and holds a diploma in Tropical Medicine (RCP:London).
Dr Smith works as a medical volunteer from time to time. A recent example of this was when she carried out rheumatology clinics amongst the slum dwellings in Delhi, India January 2011 for a charity.
Her MD Thesis was on Oxygen Free Radicals.
