The Clinical Genetics Service in Gloucestershire aims to provide people affected by, or at risk of, a genetic condition with accurate genetic information, genetic testing (where applicable), and counselling support.

Services Provided

• Assist with making an accurate diagnosis of a genetic condition within the family.
• Provide full and accurate information to families about the condition.
• Give information to families about risks of the condition occurring in themselves or their offspring, and the tests available to them.
• Provide counselling support, particularly during times of crisis or decision making.
• Refer families to other professionals if appropriate.

Situations Where a Referral to the Genetics Service May Be Appropriate

Where a genetic condition is known or suspected in a family. These may include:

• Huntington's disease, Cystic fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Polyposis coli, Fragile X, Marfan Syndrome.
• After the birth of a baby who has health problems caused by a genetic condition.
• After recurrent miscarriage, stillbirth, or death of a baby, particularly if the baby was found to have physical problems.
• Where a child within the family has learning difficulties, particularly if the child also has other health problems or unusual physical features.
• In a family where there is a strong family history of cancer.

Genetic clinics are held 1st and 3rd Thursdays by Dr P. Lunt in Battledown Children’s Outpatient Department.

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

Genetic clinics held by Dr A Donaldson Mondays and Tuesdays.

Genetic clinics held by Dr Lunt 1st and 3rd Thursdays.

Genetic Counsellor clinics held Tuesdays and Fridays.
