Staff at the hospitals will be celebrating National Breastfeeding week by taking their specialised support services out on the road from 21st June.

The team who deliver breastfeeding support in Gloucestershire will be on the health information bus at The Cross in Gloucester on 21st and 25th June. This is a joint event between Gloucestershire Care Services (GCS) Health Visiting and our trust Midwifery team. Everybody is welcome to come and meet them on each of the days between 10am and 3pm to share their experiences of breast feeding or get advice from them on any breast feeding questions. As well as members of our specialist feeding team, a lead for peer support will also be available.

UNICEF Baby Friendly

All our Maternity and neonatal services were awarded Baby Friendly status by Unicef last year and received the award for giving newborn babies and their mums high standards of care and for their work in supporting women with the different options for feeding their baby. GCS Health Visiting has also been re-accredited with Baby Friendly Initiative Stage 3, as each Service has to be re-assessed every 2 years to maintain the high standards required. The Baby Friendly Initiative is a global programme which provides a practical and effective way for health services to improve the care given to all mothers and babies.
