Notes
- This test is not generally of value in making a diagnosis of Varicella zoster virus infection. A viral swab of the lesion is of more diagnostic value
- VZV IgM antibody tests are relatively insensitive and have poor specificity. Occasionally samples may be referred for testing after discussion with the Consultant Microbiologist.
- It is always tested along with Herpes simplex virus CFT antibodies to exclude cross reactions

8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube
