Advanced Clinical Practitioners celebrated in National Apprenticeship Week

8 Feb 2024, 9:50 p.m.

In National Apprenticeship Week, congratulations to Emilie Burden and Hayley McNeil from our Acute Medicine Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team who recently completed their 3-year Level 7 Apprenticeship in Advanced Clinical Practice

Apprenticeships provide an outstanding opportunity to continue working whilst you learn, working alongside highly knowledgeable and skilled staff, and making a difference to people’s lives.

One of the apprenticeships that we run at Gloucestershire Hospitals is a 3-year Level 7 Apprenticeship in Advanced Clinical Practice and at the end of last year, our first group of health care professionals completed their apprenticeship alongside an accredited Master's level award. Two of those are Emilie Burden and Hayley McNeil who currently work in our Acute Medicine Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Team.

Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) is a defined level of practice characterised by working to a high degree of autonomy and complex decision-making within a variety of health care professions such as nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, paramedic science and occupational therapy. It is underpinned by the Master’s which encompasses the 4 pillars of practice; leadership and management, research, education and clinically able to work to a set of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence.

Working to this level of practice can transform and modernise pathways of care, enabling the safe and effective sharing of skills across traditional medical boundaries. Having achieved an accredited award, Emilie and Hayley are going to be proud holders of The Centres for Advancing Practice digital badge.

Congratulations to Emilie and Hayley for this fantastic achievement.
