Bringing patient joy through live music at our hospitals

This pilot project will see a talented local musician perform across a number of different departments, including:
- Guiting Ward - where Care of the Elderly patients will be visited in their hospital bays and also take part in group music sessions
- The Children’s Centre and Paediatric Emergency Department - to provide a welcome distraction and uplifting performaces
- Our Neonatal Unit - for a special skin to skin lullaby session for our tiny patients and their families.
These sessions are designed to improve the patient experience by creating a calming and uplifting environment, helping to ease anxiety and support patient wellbeing. The benefits of music in healthcare settings are well recognised, with evidence showing it can reduce stress, improve mood and even aid physical recovery.
What a phenomenal start to such a special project. Becky is an incredible musician who was able to empathise with each individual and play music appropriate to their current situation and needs. Whether that be a gentle lullaby, a calming piece of music or an uplifting song that triggered a private memory that bought a smile. There has been laughter, dance, smiles and tears of joy. I look forward to seeing how this project develops.
