Music, Community and Christmas Spirit Unite for The Big Space Cancer Appeal

Christmas Concert Last week, over 700 guests, choirs and musicians came together for Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity’s Christmas Concert at Gloucester Cathedral.

The event was hosted by Jill Douglas MBE and featured performances from The Caring chorus, Gloucester Dementia Choir, MidLife ChoirSis and the Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra.

Over £2,500 was raised through a collection for The Big Space Cancer Appeal to create a new state-of-the-art cancer centre. Thousands of cancer patients in Gloucestershire and across the region will benefit from this new building; there will be modern consulting rooms complete with new digital technology, space for innovation and research trials as well as a new therapeutic garden.

Arlene McGlynn, Philanthropy Manager at the Charity said: “It was an incredible evening, and everyone truly had the most festive time. For some of our performers, appearing in the magnificent surroundings of Gloucester Cathedral was a lifelong dream come true. We are deeply grateful to all the wonderful performers, choirs and musicians whose talent and dedication brought the event to life; without their commitment, the evening quite simply wouldn’t have been possible.”

This year has been especially significant for The Big Space Cancer Appeal. From donations and gifts in wills to bake sales and charity runs, we’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity and commitment of our supporters. To finish the year in such spectacular surroundings, alongside such remarkable talent, has been a truly meaningful way to bring the year to a close.”

Over £9.7million has now been raised for the appeal, with a number of charity events planned for 2026 including a Sunrise Snowdon Challenge, a Community Concert and Run Cheltenham.

The Christmas Concert was a truly special occasion. Whether people attended as supporters, donors, volunteers, clinicians, families or friends, their presence reflected something profoundly hopeful: a community choosing to stand together, care for one another and invest in a future where every patient and every family feels seen, supported and held. The Big Space Cancer Appeal will transform lives across our county. The concert was more than a festive gathering; it was a celebration of our shared commitment and a powerful reminder that compassion expressed collectively can change the world, one life at a time.
