Funded thanks to your support: Free workplace health checks now available to all staff

Staff across Gloucestershire Hospitals can now benefit from a brand-new Workplace Health Check Service. The specialist wellbeing nurse role, funded thanks to your donations, has been designed to help support physical wellbeing.

The new initiative, led by the Workplace Wellbeing team, is open to all staff and provides a convenient, confidential opportunity to check in on key aspects of your health during the working day. Recognising the challenge of finding time for personal healthcare, the service offers flexible 30-minute appointments at multiple locations across both Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals.

Each appointment includes a range of checks and support, including:

  • Blood pressure reading
  • Resting heart rate
  • Weight and height measurement to calculate BMI
  • A healthy lifestyle discussion with signposting to additional support if needed

Wellbeing Nurse, Michelle Payne, said: “I am a qualified nurse with over 30 years of varied experience. I have lived in Gloucestershire for 34 years, and trained ‘back in the day’ when it was the Avon and Gloucestershire College of Health based at the Redwood Education Centre. I also trained as a midwife here and worked for a short time in the special care baby unit in Cheltenham.”

“The majority of my experience has been within primary care as a nurse practitioner within GP surgeries, urgent care, walk in centres, and the local out of hours service, as well as a recent temporary post supporting our armed forces at Imjin Barracks, Innsworth. I am very much looking forward to supporting the teams across all departments that work so hard within our Trust, in my new role as one of your Wellbeing Nurses, and to receiving any feedback so that we can shape this service in a way that best serves your needs.”

The introduction of workplace health checks reflects our charity’s commitment to caring for those who care. At the heart of this initiative is the recognition that NHS staff - who give so much every day - need dedicated support for their own health and wellbeing.

“These newly funded roles are an important step in helping staff prioritise their own health. We are incredibly proud to be supporting our colleagues in taking proactive, meaningful steps towards better wellbeing. These health checks provide an opportunity for staff to pause, check in on their health and feel empowered to make small, positive changes. It is thanks to the generosity of our supporters that these checks are now available to everyone - directly improving the lives of those who care for others every single day.”
