The Trust has been made aware that a small batch of cervical screening (smear) tests from the very end of March did not arrive at the cytology laboratory for analysis.

We are really sorry that this has occurred and are in the process of writing to every patient known to have been affected, and to their GP. We are arranging for repeat tests to be taken as well as further information and support to those affected who can speak directly to our specialist Nurse Practitioners.

All patients affected should receive a letter from the hospital by Friday 17 June and if they have any concerns they can contact the helpline on 07814 808 259.

We recognise the seriousness of this situation and are working with NHS England and partners to investigate what happened and to ensure it does not occur again. In the meantime, we have implemented an additional tracking system for all samples received.

We are very sorry for any anxiety and inconvenience this may have caused and will continue to do everything we can to support patients.
