Cancer services

Our specialist cancer teams work together to deliver compassionate, high quality care for patients, their families and carers.

Oncology is the branch of medicine which refers to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. At our hospitals we call these cancer services.

Our cancer care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors (oncologists), specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, radiologists, pathologists and administrative staff.

Chemotherapy:

Back in 2016, our Training and Development Nurse Alison Peett led the transformation of care for patients about to embark on a course of chemotherapy. Prior to this, patients had to wait for a one-to-one session, but now up to eight patients at a time attend an information morning and are able to bring a carer.

In a new development, the session is also now available on video, so that people can watch with their wider families or carers and can also refresh their memory at any time.

Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is provided for patients at our Oncology Centre at Cheltenham and dedicated unit in Hereford and is used to treat many forms of cancer including skin, prostate, breast, anal, head and neck and cervical cancers. Our Radiotherapy Department has access to the latest radiotherapy equipment, including state-of-the-art linear accelerators (LINAC), and techniques and are involved in clinical trials for new treatments.

All patients who need to have radiotherapy will have a personalised plan for their treatment, depending on their individual needs.
