Gloucestershire Hospitals Greenhand: Sustainable Carpal Tunnel Care shortlisted for the 2026 HSJ Awards
Gloucestershire Hospitals is delighted to announce that Greenhand: Sustainable Carpal Tunnel Care has been shortlisted for Towards Net Zero Award at the HSJ Awards, recognising an outstanding contribution to healthcare and securing a place at the prestigious awards ceremony later this year.
1300+ entries have been received for this year’s Awards, with 231 projects and individuals reaching the final shortlist. The high volume and exceptional quality of applications showcases the impressive levels of innovation and care continually being developed within the UK’s healthcare networks.
Following the thorough judging process, Gloucestershire Hospitals was shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held later this year (19th November), with its
Greenhand: Sustainable Carpal Tunnel Care standing out as a real ‘success story’ worthy of a prized place on the panel’s shortlist.
GreenHand is an innovative project led jointly by the Research and Innovation Department and the Trauma and Orthopaedics Service at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Funded to develop a more sustainable approach to managing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), the initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of care from referral through to recovery, while also lowering costs to the NHS and making treatment more convenient for patients.
Traditionally, patients attend multiple hospital appointments over several months for assessment, surgery and follow-up care. Through the GreenHand project, suitable patients can benefit from a streamlined "one-stop" pathway, where assessment and surgery take place during the same hospital visit, with remote consultations used where safe and appropriate. By reducing the number of journeys and appointments required, GreenHand is improving patient experience while supporting the NHS's commitment to more sustainable healthcare.

The selected winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at Evolution London on 19 November 2026.

The awards judging panel was once again made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, as well as a range of esteemed board level executives from NHS Trusts across the UK.
