Gloucestershire nurse receives RCN Award of Merit
Gloucestershire nurse, Matthew Stewart, has been given a prestigious Award of Merit at the Royal College of Nursing’s annual Congress in Liverpool.
Celebrating the very best in nursing, the annual RCN Awards present Fellowships, Honorary Fellowships and Awards of Merit to those who have given an outstanding contribution to nursing, along with honours for the Learning Representative, Safety Representative and Steward of the Year.
Matthew, said:
"It’s a real honour to be given such a high award within the college and something that I never thought I would get. I was just doing my job, raising concerns as an RCN Steward on an issue that has affected so many of my nursing colleagues. I want to thank all those that have supported me on this journey."
Susan Masters, RCN Regional Director said:
“I am delighted for Matthew. The work he has undertaken to lobby on the issue of corridor care has been amazing. Matthew has stepped up to represent not only his immediate colleagues and community but nursing on a national scale. His work has, and is, making a real difference and we are very proud of him. This award is absolutely deserved, and we are delighted he has been recognised in this way.”
Matthew was given the award at the first day of RCN Congress in Liverpool.
RCN Congress is where RCN members meet to learn, develop and share nursing practice. It is also where members inform the RCN agenda and influence nursing and health policy through debate. Congress 25 is in Liverpool 11-15 May 2025.
