Gloucestershire team double their medal tally at the British Transplant Games
Building on the success of their first transplant games last year, the Gloucestershire team have won four gold medals, two silver and two bronze in Oxford at the weekend.
This year’s team included several returning athletes. Gold medal winners are: Andy Niblett in bowls from a total of 48 entrants, Tracie Cox and Ryan Penfold in archery and Liam Ward in the 800m.
Andrew Danson won silver in the 800m and Liam Ward also won silver in the 1500m.
Mike Green won bronze in the Live donor 5k. Andrew Danson also won bronze in the 1500m.
The Gloucestershire team had 16 competitors take part and Sarah Ryder, Renal Transplant Specialist nurse said:
“The sense of support within the team was once again fantastic to be part of. It was an amazing event and we’re looking forward to Sheffield in 2026. Before then we wish Liam Ward good luck representing Great Britain (and Gloucestershire) in the World Transplant Games later this month.”

Gloucestershire Kidney Patient Association said: “We are proud to be sponsoring the Gloucester Team who are competing in the Transplant Games.
Kidney disease affects all aspects of life for kidney patients and their families. Transplants can completely transform their lives.
Organ donation can only happen due to the generosity of donors and their families, either living or deceased. As a charity we wanted to support the team at the games to show what can be achieved after a transplant and to pay tribute to all the donors and their families.”
