We are aware of the national update from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) regarding historic issues with elements of its registration checking processes.
While this is a national matter, it does not change the robust safeguards we have in place at our Trust.
We have comprehensive recruitment and employment checks for all staff that go beyond professional registration requirements.
These include Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, identity verification, employment history checks and references, alongside clear expectations for staff to declare any issues that could affect their ability to practise.
These checks are an essential part of how we ensure that everyone working in our services is suitable, safe and supported to provide high-quality care.
Our processes are regularly reviewed and strengthened in line with best practice.
We will continue to monitor the national position and respond to any further guidance from the NMC.
