“Sangeet Memory Box” launched to support Hindu dementia patients
We’re proud to announce a new collaboration with Gloucestershire charity Mindsong to launch the “Sangeet Memory Box”, a music playlist designed to support the wellbeing of Hindu patients living with dementia.
Developed with local Hindu communities in Gloucester and Cheltenham, the playlist features a thoughtful selection of devotional music and soundtracks from familiar Indian cinema. These carefully chosen pieces reflect cultural and spiritual heritage, helping to spark memories, reduce anxiety, and provide a sense of comfort and identity for people living with dementia.
Music and sound are powerful tools for people living with dementia, supporting connections to memories, life experiences, and relationships with family, faith and community. The Sangeet Memory Box aims to provide a meaningful and culturally relevant resource that can be used both in hospital and at home by patients, families and carers.
This work has been developed in partnership with Mindsong, alongside the Hindu Community Centre Elders and Carers Support Group in Cheltenham and the Hindu Cultural Association of Gloucester. It forms part of our ongoing commitment to delivering personalised care that respects the cultural and spiritual needs of every patient.
The Sangeet Memory Box is offered as a starting point for families and carers, with the aim of encouraging people to create personalised playlists that reflect individual preferences, memories and life experiences.
This initiative builds on wider work across the Trust to improve the experience of patients living with dementia, including developing more dementia-friendly environments and supporting personalised approaches to care.
