Suspended prison sentence for man who stalked NHS staff

21 Jan 2026, 10:02 a.m.

On 20 January 2026, Mike Meszaros was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence and an indefinite restraining order after pleading guilty to charges of stalking NHS and care staff.

This marks an important step forward after years of targeted and sustained stalking and online harassment through his ‘Carers Want Competence’ social media accounts, directed at NHS staff across Gloucestershire.

Our colleagues come to work to care for others, and they have the right to feel safe and free from harassment.

The prolonged online abuse they experienced has caused deep and lasting personal and professional harm.

We are grateful to Gloucestershire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service for their support in bringing this long‑running targeted behaviour to an end.

Their commitment has ensured that this abuse has been taken seriously and in keeping staff feeling safe.

We would also like to thank the colleagues who spoke up and provided information to support the investigation.

We will always stand by and support our colleagues. Harassment, intimidation, stalking, and abuse, online or in person, will never be accepted.

“Our staff dedicate their working lives to caring for people from across our communities. They should never feel threatened or scared as a result of harassment or stalking. I am incredibly proud of those who came forward and of all our colleagues who continue to support one another and to provide outstanding care despite the impact this behaviour has had on them. We will always support and protect our staff.”

Kevin McNamara, Chief Executive, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

“Our Trust colleagues work tirelessly to support our communities and have a right to do so free from harassment and abuse. We are grateful to both Gloucestershire Police and the Crown Prosecutive Service, as well as our own colleagues who collated and gave evidence, for bringing this case to a conclusion. I hope it brings some comfort to the colleagues who have been impacted by this case.”
