Temporary Suspension of Cancer Prehabilitation Service
The Gloucestershire Cancer Prehabilitation Service will be temporarily suspended from 1 August 2025 due to ongoing staffing challenges and wider service pressures.
We are unable to accept any referrals into the service until further notice. We are actively working with clinical divisions to explore all available options with the aim of securing a long-term sustainable future for prehabilitation support in Gloucestershire. Patients recently referred and currently in treatment will be directly contacted for further information and direct signposting
Since its launch in 2022, the service has provided personalised physical, nutritional and psychological support to people preparing for cancer treatment, helping patients build strength and resilience ahead of surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact this has had on patient care.
We understand this news will be disappointing, particularly for patients currently using the service and for the teams who support them. Our priority is to ensure that affected patients are signposted to alternative sources of support wherever possible. We are working closely with clinical teams to manage this transition carefully, including the use of digital screening and triage tools to connect patients with relevant local resources.
We remain focused on ensuring that patients continue to receive the information and support they need to optimise their physical and psychological health before and during cancer treatment. This includes collaboration with acute, community and voluntary sector partners.
We are fully committed to the principles and proven benefits of prehabilitation and to the continued development of high-quality cancer services for people across Gloucestershire.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
