Department of Immunology
Notes
- Immunochemical C1 esterase inhibitor is assessed along with complement C3 and C4. If low then a functional assay will also be performed.
- Low levels are seen in hereditary angioedema, which is an autosomal dominant disorder. Acquired C1 inhibitor deficiency may also occur in B-cell lymphomas and some autoimmune diseases.
- Test performed at Southmead Hospital, Bristol.
- Specimen must arrive in the laboratory within 2 hours of collection.
