Candida auris screen
Microbiology
- New positive hospital cases will be notified by the Infection Control team
- The following sites can be screened:
- groin and axilla
- urine
- nose and throat
- perineal
- rectal or stool
- Other sites that may be considered if clinically indicated are:
- low vaginal swab
- sputum/endotracheal secretions
- drain fluid (abdominal/pelvic/mediastinal)
- cannula entry sites
- wounds
Sample requirements
Standard charcoal transport swab (hyperlink)
30mL sterile universal for urine (hyperlink) or other fluids/secretions
Urine samples sent in red capped 30mL sterile universal (hyperlink) containers are also accepted.
Stool container with spoon
Required information
- Reason for screening e.g., previous colonisation, contact with colonised patient or transfer from another hospital/unit in the UK or abroad
Storage/transport
Store and transport at room temperature
