‘Changing Places’ are specialist facilities for disabled people requiring assistance from 1 or more carers, or who need the larger manoeuvring space provided

We are delighted to say that ‘Changing Places’ facilities are now available at both Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Both facilities have been built in strict accordance with guidance from The Changing Places Consortium, who launched its campaign in 2006 on behalf of the over 1/4 of a million people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. This includes people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy, as well some older people who require assistance. www.changing-places.org

We understand that accidents or mishaps happen which can result in a wet or messy room, and in these circumstances we just ask that you let us know so that we can clean the facility for the next person.  Please speak to the Portering Services so that in liaison with our Domestic Services, we can make sure the facilities are kept in the best condition.

Where are the Changing Places facilities located?

  • In Cheltenham, the facility is located on the Ground Floor of Centre Block, close to Medical Photography
  • In Gloucester, the facility is located off the Main Block Ground Floor corridor close to Pharmacy

Our Hospital Maps page has internal maps of our hospitals

Each facility is accessed with a Radar key and if you do not have yours to hand, you can call our Portering Services who hold a spare key at each hospital.

Who should use Changing Places Facilities?

‘Changing Places’ are specialist facilities for disabled people requiring assistance from 1 or more carers, or who need the larger manoeuvring space provided.

People needing accessible toilets or baby changing facilities are politely asked to use designated facilities elsewhere in both hospitals, the locations of which are indicated on signage throughout both hospitals.

The installation of these 'Changing Places' facilities has been driven by collaborative working with families and the Patient Experience Team, to whom we would like to extend sincere gratitude for their commitment and patience throughout the long process.
