The Epilepsy team provides assessment, advice and information for people with a diagnosis of epilepsy.
Services we provide
- Newly diagnosed support
- One-to-one appointments, including face-to-face or over the telephone
- Advice on symptom and medication management
- Lifestyle support and guidance (Including pregnancy support)
- Support for patients with Learning Disabilities, their families and carers
- Transition clinics from Paediatrics
- Care plans and Protocols for emergency medications

- Poppy Thompson – Epilepsy Specialist Nurse
We also work closely with other NHS departments such as the Neurophysiology Department, Health Psychologists and Learning Disability Liaison Nurses.
How to make contact with the Epilepsy Team
You can contact our dedicated Epilepsy advice line on 0300 422 6403 8.00am-4pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). There may not always be someone available to answer the phone, so please leave a message with your name, contact details and a brief description of the problem.
Our nurses will aim to call you back as soon as possible to assess your symptoms, and organise further tests and treatments if needed.
Please be aware the Epilepsy helpline is NOT an urgent or emergency service.

This is someone’s first seizure

If a seizure is lasting longer than what is usual for them (or longer than 5 minutes if you are unsure of the usual length of their seizures)

They do not recover as usual afterwards or go into another seizure before fully recovering

They have had more than 3 seizures in a 24-hour period.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scans
