Plain wire swab

Description

• Colour coded ORANGE
• Pack contains:
  • Sterile wire-shafted swab
• Use for bacteriology investigations only - may be useful for urethral and auditory canal sampling
• Do not use for virology or Chlamydia investigations

Swabs must be placed into a tube of charcoal transport medium for transport to the laboratory

Fastidious organisms will not survive on dry swabs

Notes

Label the specimen with:

• Surname
  
• Forename
• Date of birth (not age) OR unique identity number (MRN number, NHS number)
