Notes

Chronic malaise is defined as being of more than one month duration

• For malaise of less than one month duration, see General/malaise serology screen
• This screen comprises the following tests:
  • Influenza A virus antibodies
  • Influenza B virus antibodies
  • CMV antibodies
  • EBV antibodies
  • Toxoplasma antibodies
• Investigation of malaise of greater than six months duration will be limited to EBV and Toxoplasma antibodies only
  

Sample requirements

Serum - paired samples not required

8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube

• Relevant clinical details
• Date of onset
• Clinical details typically malaise, myalgia, "flu-like" illness

Storage/transport

Store at fridge temperature

Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature

7–10 days
