This page is about the Holy Communion service at our hospitals.

Welcome

We meet in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The light and peace of Jesus Christ be with you.

The Church of God, of which we are members, has taken bread and wine and given thanks over them according to our Lord's command. These holy gifts are brought to us that we may share in communion with Christ.

Prayers of Preparation and Confession

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open, all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden;

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name;

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

We come to God, as one from whom no secrets are hidden, to ask for his forgiveness and peace.

Lord our God,

in our sin we have avoided your call.

Our love for you is like a morning cloud,

like the dew that goes away early.

Have mercy on us;

deliver us from judgement;

bind up our wounds and revive us;

in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May the God of all healing and forgiveness draw us to himself and cleanse us from all our sins,

that we may behold the glory of his Son,

the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer (Modern or traditional version)

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen.

OR

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power

and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Lord Jesus, at supper with his friends on the night he was betrayed, shared bread and wine and said, ‘Do this in memory of me’. So we take this bread and wine and trust that he is present with us.

Giving of Bread and Wine

The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ keep you in eternal life.

Prayer of Thanksgiving and Blessing

God of truth, we have seen with our eyes and touched with our hands the bread of life. Strengthen our faith that we may grow in love for you and for each other; through Jesus Christ our risen Lord. Amen.

May the loving God embrace you;

may the healing Christ restore you;

may the Holy Spirit encourage you;

may God, the three in one, be with you,

this day and for evermore. Amen.
