Stroud Maternity Unit

Stroud maternity unit is a small midwife led centre that helps deliver around 300 births every year, and offers a home from home environment for new parents.

Our team of experienced midwives will help you have an active birth, and can advise on alternative forms of pain relief, like aromatherapy and use of the birthing pool.

Our rooms have all been individually designed to create a comfortable and calm environment for you, your birth partner and your baby. This includes:

  • birthing pools
  • en suite rooms, with facilities for your birth partner to stay overnight

After you have had your baby, you can stay at Stroud maternity unit for extra care and support. This is also available if you have given birth in another unit.

If you need an epidural or there is an unexpected problem with you or your baby, you may be transferred to the delivery suite at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. It’s more likely you will need to transfer from Stroud maternity unit to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital if this is your first baby.

Visiting

We are generally flexible with visiting times and number of visitors, so please check beforehand with your midwife.

Support with feeding, changing or bathing your baby

Our Maternity Care Assistants offer one-to-one breastfeeding and parent support for babies up to 14 days old. This is available 7 days a week and partners are welcome.

  • Support and advice to learn new breastfeeding positions
  • Expressing, cup feeding and how to make up bottles for bottle-feeding
  • Facilities available to express milk, including sterilisers

Monday:

Antenatal and Postnatal Pelvic Health Classes with Physiotherapist 10:00-11:30 please book via ghn-tr.womenshealth.physio@nhs.net or 0300 422 3053

Tuesday:

  • Pregnancy Yoga 09:00-10:15 and 19:00-20:15 book via Rachel Iliffe
  • Tea and cake 14:00-16:00 - no need to book all welcome
  • Mothers Sharing Circle 12:15-12:45 - monthly- book via Stroud Motherhood

Wednesday:

  • Infant Sleep Support Group 13:00-14:20 monthly book via Stroud Motherhood
  • Tour of Unit at 18:00 - no need to book all welcome

Thursdays:

  • Mama sings 10:00-10:50 - no need to book all welcome
  • Bump Start Antenatal Group 12:30-14:30 - please speak to a midwife or book via 01453821085 or email groups@homestartsd.org

Friday:

Coming in Sept 24 - Baby Massage!

Saturday:

Tour of Unit 11:00 - no need to book all welcome
