Our birth centre in Cheltenham is run by midwives and has been specially designed to make your journey into parenthood as smooth as possible.

Information:

October 2023: The Cheltenham Birth Centre is currently closed for labour and birth but open for antenatal appointments

Our en-suite rooms include the tools to promote a natural delivery, from birthing balls and cushions to low lighting and music.
The spacious, airy rooms have all the home comforts to create a sanctuary for your labour and birth.

Our facilities

Each room is different but all of our suites include the small details to make a difference. Facilities at the Aveta birth centre include:

  • birthing pools
  • aromatherapy service
  • en suite ‘home from home’ birthing rooms, designed to support active, natural labour

Midwife-led care

You will receive one on one care from your midwife, so that you and your birth partner feel at home in our intimate birth centre.
Our midwives are trained to provide pain relief, such as Entonox (gas and air) and Pethidine.
Once your labour is over, you won’t have to move to a ward. You and your partner will be given the time and space to get to know your baby.

Visiting

We are generally flexible with visiting times and number of visitors, so please check beforehand with your midwife.

Information:

If you need an epidural or there is an unexpected problem with you or your baby, you will be transferred to the delivery suite at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Complications

You may be advised against giving birth in a midwifery-led unit if you’re considered to be at increased risk of complications:

  • at the beginning of your pregnancy
  • as your pregnancy develops
  • during labour
