The organs and tissues in the human body are made up of cells, which are constantly growing and then dividing to form new cells.

As with most tumour markers there is a high incidence of false positive and false negative results. CA 19-9 is most appropriately used in monitoring disease progression or effectiveness of treatment once diagnosis of the tumour has been made and serum concentrations have been shown to be raised prior to treatment (Lewis negative individuals do not express CA 19-9).

A medicine you received today as part of your anaesthetic, may interfere with hormonal contraception and increase the chance of pregnancy. If you are taking ‘the pill’ (combined or mini), follow the missed pill advice in the pill information leaflet. If you have a hormonal implant, coil, injection, patch or vaginal ring, you will need to use barrier contraception, such as condoms, for 7 days.

The Brain Injury Team is a multidisciplinary therapy team who offer in and outpatient assessment and therapy for adults who have had an acquired brain injury.
