Cinapsis is a secure online communication tool, supported with telephone conversation to link community health care providers with hospital specialists to receive timely support and advice to prioritise patient centred care.

Cinapsis has been in place for several specialties within GHFT for some time with positive effects. The ED Cinapsis number will be available to SWAST paramedics, primary care and MIIU practitioners.

CGH type 1 ED (Cheltenham General Hospital)

  • All urological presentations
  • All stroke via stroke team
  • Medical or Frailty cases only if accepted via specialty Cinapsis routes. These patients should be admitted directly to other areas and not require attendance to ED.

GRH type 1 ED (Gloucestershire Royal Hospital)

  • All cardiac arrest of any cause
  • All medical presentations (who are not referred or accepted at CGH by medical team)
  • All mental health presentations including physical health complications (i.e. overdose)*
  • All trauma presentations regardless of severity (i.e. low impact, frail)*
  • All orthopaedic presentations – (hot, swollen joint etc)*
  • All surgical presentations (vascular, GI, ENT, max fax etc.)
  • All maternity presentations
    All gynaecology presentations
  • All paediatrics presentations

This does not provide a surrogate for referrals to other specialty colleagues. Callers with queries to this effect will be asked to use the appropriate alternative cinapsis routes. The ED consultant will not offer any forward communications to specialty colleagues on behalf of community HCPs.
