• Acute hepatitis is defined as an illness of less than 3 months duration
• For an illness of more than 3 months duration see Hepatitis serology screen - chronic
• This screen comprises the following tests:
  • Hepatitis A IgM
  • Hepatitis B antigens
  • Hepatitis C antibodies
  • EB virus antibodies
  • CMV antibodies
• If other causes of infectious hepatitis are suspected please request additional tests specifically and include relevant clinical details

Sample requirements

Serum - paired samples not normally required

8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube

• Date of onset
• Risk factors
• Travel history

Storage/transport

Store at fridge temperature

Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature
