May be inadequate in some people
A local anaesthetic will be used to numb the area to be operated on. This will sting briefly while the anaesthetic is injected into the skin.
A probe will be placed on your abdomen. During the scan, sound waves will be sent from the probe in pulses.

Plasma must be promptly separated and frozen on receipt in the laboratory.
