acute pain or unstable/worsening pain oral: pain team / palliative care
To ease pain and swelling you may be offered pain relief and given advice regarding further over the counter medication.
Some pain relief can cause constipation. A diet high in bran, fresh fruit and vegetables is advisable.
Chest wall pain/rib fractures Radiotherapy can weaken the ribs and cause pain or fracture.
If you have any pain this should be fairly mild, similar to period pains. Pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen should help.
If this does not help control your pain, please speak to your midwife or GP.
You may give birth in our delivery suite if: you need the help of a doctor to deliver your baby you would like an epidural as pain relief during labour
Reducing pain
If you experience any pain, please seek advice from your GP.
Entonox, also known as ‘gas and air’, is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen and is widely used to help manage pain during labour.
This can lead to pain and/or damage to teeth next to it.
This may cause shortness of breath, pain in the chest and/or coughing up blood.
In severe cases reduced blood supply can cause constant pain in the foot and the leg or pain when lying in bed.
Can I have pain relief?

The drops will rest the eye by stopping the muscles going into spasm and causing pain.

You are likely to feel sore so regular pain relief will be arranged for you.
