About us

We aim to provide the highest standard of care possible for children and young people across Gloucestershire, offering specialist day surgery, inpatient and outpatient facilities as well as emergency services.

Every year we carry out around 2,300 operations for children and young people. We treat more than 8,000 children as inpatients and we see more than 23,000 children and young people in outpatient clinics.
We also care for more than 600 babies each year and have a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital which cares for premature babies.
Our inpatients are cared for at the Children’s Centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and we hold outpatient clinics at both Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals, community and special school sites.

  • we aim to develop a partnership of care, with parents and children making informed choices and playing an active role in their care
  • we aim to create a happy, safe, friendly environment, offering activities for all ages and abilities to help reduce the fears associated with a hospital setting
  • each child and family are seen as individuals, with their own experiences and expectations. These shall be met with respect and flexibility in accordance with current guidelines
  • continuous training ensures staff are appropriately qualified and motivated to deliver up-to-date care and professionalism
  • we aim to make the stay in hospital as enjoyable as possible, maintain and improve quality of life, promote independence and aid the transition to home again.
