To install critical infrastructure for the Emergency Department (ED) extension, we’re bringing in a large crane from 12 September that will be lifted over the front of the Atrium. Alternative access for drop-offs is available.
We are based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and see patients who have either been referred to our service from the community (e.g. their GP) or those who have attended the Emergency Department following an acute illness or event such as a fall.

Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BOHB, also known as 3- hydroxybutyrate) is a ketone body produced when glucose cannot be used as a fuel source. It is measured in conjunction with free fatty acids (FFA) and glucose in order to investigate hypoglycaemia or symptoms associated with ketoacidosis. The ratio of FFA to BOHB in hypoglycaemia can help to detect hyperinsulinism or a fatty oxidation defect.
