Medical Assessment Unit (MAZ)
The Medical Assessment Unit (MAZ) is a 10-trolley space for assessment at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
MAZ is for patients who need a hospital assessment, but can be treated and discharged with follow ups if necessary.
Patients are referred to MAZ from:
- The Emergency Department (ED)
- Their own GP
- The ambulance service
- Outpatient Clinics
After being assessed, you will be either:
- Discharged home after your treatment is complete
- Admitted onto the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) or to the specific speciality ward
- Given a follow-up appointment for you to go to Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
