Mr O’Callaghan started his NHS consultant post in Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust in 2025. Having graduated from the University of Southampton in 2012 he obtained initial training through the academic foundation programme in Cardiff with basic surgical training in Bristol. Jamie completed his Trauma & Orthopaedic training within the Severn deanery. He has undertaken two high volume complex spinal fellowships. One of which focused on adult and paediatric spinal deformity in Taunton, Somerset and the second in London, Ontario Canada which combined Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical spinal surgery.
Mr O’Callaghan is trained and competent in assessing and managing all adult spinal conditions. He works with a multitude of healthcare professionals to ensure patients are comprehensively managed throughout their treatment. Regularly contributes to spinal multi-disciplinary and clinical governance meetings. He advocates for patient empowerment and a patient centred approach in order to tailor the most appropriate management plan to the individual needs of each patient.
Jamie ensures that all management decisions are rooted in a strong evidence base. He is an advocate of a shared decision making approach offering both operative and non-operative interventions to achieve the best outcomes for patients. It is imperative to track our patient outcomes/quality of life improvement and this is why all patients are entered with their consent onto the British Spinal Registry.

- Degenerative lumbar, cervical and thoracic spinal pathologies
- Management of degenerative disc disease, spondylosis, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, adult scoliosis and low back pain
- Spinal fractures and associated spinal cord injuries
- Metastatic spinal cord compression
- Radiculopathy (sciatica and brachalgia) & Myelopathy conditions
- Sacroiliac dysfunction
- Management of spinal infections including discitis, spondylodiscitis, epidural abscesses and deformity relating to infection
- Pain relief procedures including nerve root injections, epidural injections, nerve ablation and MUA of coccyx
- Vertebral cement augmentation: Vertebroplasty & Kyphoplasty
- Decompression, discectomy and fusion procedures
Mr O’Callaghan also specialises in general orthopaedic trauma and emergency care and is part of the Orthopaedic Trauma on-call team.
Mr O’Callaghan is currently lead for junior doctors in training in Gloucester Royal Hospital, has published widely within peer reviewed journals and now reviews spinal papers for the Bone and Joint Journal. He is also a ringside doctor for the British Boxing Board of Control.
